1. Our Commitment

Unique Movez Dance Collective CIC is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all vulnerable individuals, including children, young people under 18 years, adults at risk, and people with disabilities. We recognise our responsibility to promote safe practices and protect all individuals from harm, abuse, and exploitation.

2. Purpose of This Policy

This policy aims to:

  • Protect vulnerable individuals who participate in our activities.

  • Provide our team, volunteers, and participants with the principles that guide our approach to safeguarding.

  • Ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities concerning safeguarding.

3. Scope

This policy applies to anyone working on behalf of Unique Movez Dance Collective CIC, including our board members, senior managers, paid team members, volunteers, sessional workers, and students.

4. Legal Framework

This policy is based on UK law and guidance that seeks to protect vulnerable individuals, including but not limited to:

  • Children Act 1989 and 2004

  • Care Act 2014

  • Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006

  • Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018

  • Care and Support Statutory Guidance 2020


5. Our Beliefs

We believe that:

  • All individuals have an equal right to protection from abuse, regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

  • The welfare of the individual is paramount.

  • All suspicions and allegations of abuse should be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.

6. Keeping Vulnerable Individuals Safe

We will seek to keep vulnerable individuals safe by:

  • Valuing, listening to, and respecting them.

  • Appointing a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and a deputy DSL.

  • Adopting safeguarding best practices through our policies, procedures, and code of conduct for staff and volunteers.

  • Providing effective management for team and volunteers through supervision, support, training, and quality assurance measures.

  • Recruiting a team and volunteers safely, ensuring all necessary checks are made.

  • Recording and storing information professionally and securely.

  • Using our safeguarding procedures to share concerns and relevant information with agencies who need to know, and involve individuals, families, and carers appropriately.

  • Creating and maintaining an anti-bullying environment.

  • Ensuring that we have effective complaints and whistleblowing measures in place.

  • Providing a safe physical environment for our participants, team, and volunteers by applying health and safety measures by the law and regulatory guidance.


7. Roles and Responsibilities

Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

  • Oversee the implementation of this policy.

  • Track and record any safeguarding concerns.

  • Ensure concerns are shared with the correct authorities.

All Team and Volunteers

  • Read and understand this policy and related procedures.

  • Undertake safeguarding training appropriate to their role.

  • Report any concerns about a vulnerable individual to the DSL immediately.


8. Recognising Abuse and Neglect

Abuse and neglect can take many forms, including physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse, as well as neglect. It is important to be aware of the signs and indicators of abuse and neglect.

9. Reporting Concerns

If you have any concerns about a vulnerable individual:

Record your concerns in writing.

Report to the DSL as soon as possible.

If you believe the individual is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999.


10. Confidentiality and Information Sharing

We will only share information with professionals who need to know and will follow local safeguarding procedures.

11. Online Safety

We take measures to ensure the safety of individuals participating in online activities, including using secure platforms and monitoring online interactions.

12. Review

This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if there are significant changes in the organisation or relevant legislation.
