self care for creative freelancers | social media detox

Welcome back to part 2 of my life update. Dance & Self Care in Crisis

The keys to taking a social media detox and finding peace in the world of dance.

As the world shifted focus to health and safety, I realised how this crisis we have all been dragged through this year resulted in me taking a digital detox. During this screen break, I became unapologetically selfish as I concentrated on my priorities, found balance, and focused on my family.

Once the internet flooded with virtual dance classes, “Teacher Tay” (the name children called me back in Thailand), took a step back and became a student again. With this necessary silence, I was able to focus on my wellbeing. I simply didn’t care to much about the ‘microwave’ culture anymore; (the rat race culture and feeling the constant need to rush through life). Finding solitude, felt like a lightbulb moment amongst all of my so-called ‘microwave’ lifestyle. This was it. This was my key.

life without social media. It's time for SELF CARE...!

Finding peace of mind

This year was the first where I had no international exchanges since 2015. That meant one full year of no dance travelling trips. At first, all these changes were difficult to accept.

But then, I started going out for walks again. I found peace of mind and listened to the birds singing—something I hadn’t done for quite a while! I even found joy in going to the supermarket again, appreciating every dose of nature along the way like the gentle breezes, fluffy clouds, and blue sky. Slowing down certainly wasn’t easy, but it was needed.
